Welcome to Rayonier | Matariki Forests
Matariki Forests is the third largest forestry company in New Zealand with approximately 130,000 hectares of plantations across the country. Matariki Forests is managed by Rayonier New Zealand, a subsidiary of Rayonier Inc. who manage forest assets worth in excess of $700 million.
Rayonier | Matariki Forests take pride in our knowledge of the land and sustainable timber management practices and work for the benefit of our owners, customers, employees and communities.
Proud to be planted in NZ
Matariki Forests was named to recognise the Māori name for the Pleiades constellation which appears above the horizon in early June signifying the start of the Māori New Year. Traditionally this is the time when new crops are planted - or, in our case, new trees - and the beginning of a new cycle of growth.
Through ongoing commitment we are helping to grow and support local industry and the communities in which we work. To achieve this we rely on our operational excellence and by investing in our most important asset, our people. It is through our people that we stay grounded and committed to New Zealand for many years to come.
Responsibly managing forests for our future
Forests provide us with clean water, fresh air, biodiversity, recreation and help combat global warming. They also provide food, medicine and important natural resources, such as timber and paper. If managed responsibly, forests and plantations benefit all of the community. Rayonier | Matariki Forests are committed to responsible forestry and demonstrate this through their Forest Stewardship Certification® (FSC®) that guides social, economic and environmental practices. Currently the management of over 1 million hectares of all New Zealand plantation forests (total 1.8 million hectares) is FSC® certified.
